Leichhardtia paulforsteri is an endemic small shrub from New Caledonia restricted to the south of Grande Terre. This species occurs in dense humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrates at an altitude range of 50 and 920 m asl. Leichhardtia paulforsteri is not particularly threatened by mining activities but it seems to be more threatened by bushfires especially for the lowest population. Despite having an Area of Occupancy (AOO) and an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 52 and 421 km², Leichhardtia paulforsteri does not appear to be threatened at the moment, and is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Leichhardtia paulforsteri is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the south Grande Terre.

Population


Population size is unknown.

Habitat


Leichhardtia paulforsteri occurs in dense humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrates at an altitude range of 50 and 920 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened although some subpopulations may be threatened by bushfires at Thio.

Conservation


Leichhardtia paulforsteri is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in 4 protected areas: la Dumbéa, Haute Dumbéa, Vallée de la Thy, Montagne des sources.
