Red List Status -
Vulnerable (VU) , assessed in 19/11/2021Grevillea nepwiensis, commonly known as "Rince-bouteille de Népoui", is a shrub growing up to 6 m high endemic from New Caledonia. It is known from four subpopulations (Kopéto, Plateau de Tia, Boulinda, Paéoua) restricted to the area of Pouembout at the north west of the Grande Terre. This species occurs in degraded scrubland (maquis) on ultramafic substrate at an altitude ranging from 394 to 1,1150 m asl. The main threats are uncontrolled bushfires, mining activities at Kopeto and mining surveys that contribute to the decline of its habitat quality. Grevillea nepwiensis can remain locally abundant in some stations. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated to be of 192 km² and 48 km² with an estimation of 6 locations. Grevillea nepwiensis is therefore assessed as Vulnerable (VU) with criteria B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v) with a continuing decline of its area of occupancy (AOO), habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Geographical area
Grevillea nepwiensis is endemic to New Caledonia where it is known from four subpopulations (Kopéto, Plateau de Tia, Boulinda, Paéoua) restricted to the area of Pouembout at the north west of the Grande Terre.
Population
The population size is not known. Based on field observations, Grevillea nepwiensis can remain locally abundant in some stations.
Habitat
This species occurs in degraded scrubland (maquis) on ultramafic substrate at an altitude ranging from 394 to 1,1150 m asl.
Threats
The main threats are uncontrolled bushfires, mining activities at Kopeto and mining surveys that contribute to the decline of its habitat quality.
Conservation
Grevillea nepwiensis is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area. It is recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services), responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort on the presence of the species in the concerned areas. This species should be studied for ecological restoration in mining site areas.
