Grevillea vuniana, commonly known as "Lanterne rouge d’Unia", is an endemic small tree only known from Unia at the south east of the Grande Terre. It occurs in forest boarder on ultramafic substrate at an altitude range of 100 and 500 m asl. The population size is not known and field prospections indicate that the species has a very small population with a good regeneration. However this species is threatened by uncontrolled bushfires that contribute to the decline of the habitat quality. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are both estimated to 4 km², while the number of location is estimated to be one. Grevillea vuniana is therefore considered Critically Endangered (CR) B1ab(iii,v)+ B2ab(iii,v), with an estimated decline of all the concerned subcriteria.

Geographical area

Grevillea vuniana is endemic to New Caledonia where it is only known from Unia at the south east of the Grande Terre.

Conservation

Grevillea vuniana is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in one protected area : Côte Oubliée. It is recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services), responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort on the presence of the species in the concerned areas.
