Centotheca lappacea is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the north east of Grande Terre with the exception of a collection at Yahoué. This species is probably not well enough collected and may have a wider range of distribution than the actual distribution. It occurs in various habitats (natural and degraded humid forest and dry forest edge) on volcano-sedimentary and serpentine substrates up to 350 m asl. This species is very common and this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 7,171and 84 km², respectively. Therefore, Centotheca lappacea is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is very common.

This species is very common and this species does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Centotheca lappacea is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in one protected area : Aoupinié.
