Zealandia vieillardii is an epiphytic fern growing on tree's trunks, endemic to New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre, as well as in Ile des Pins and Lifou in the Loyalty Islands. This species is locally common and abundant and it is found in dense humid forest up to 1,200 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 36,304 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 144 km², Z. vieillardii does not seem threatened and therefore is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Zealandia vieillardii is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed in Grande Terre, from Forêt Nord in the south to Mandjelia in the north east with an observation at Tiébaghi as well as in Ile des Pins and Lifou (Loyalty Islands).

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common and abundant species.

Habitat


Zealandia vieillardii is an epiphytic fern growing on tree's trunks which occurs in dense humid forest up to 1,200 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened.

Conservation


Zealandia vieillardii is not protected by legislation, however it does occur in several protected areas: Foret Nord, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Pic Ningua, Rivière bleue, Vallée de la Thy, Aoupinié, Chutes de la Madeleine, Côte Oubliée, Forêt de Saille, Haute Dumbéa, Haute Yaté, la Dumbéa, Mont Do, Mont Mou.
