Phyllanthus baladensis is a shrub of 0.5-2(-4) m high, endemic of New Caledonia, distributed in the north east of Grande Terre, from Ponérihouen to Paala with some scattered observations at Koné and Koumac. It is quite common and is found in undergrowth forests and also in humid forests on volcano-sedimentary substrate. It mainly grows in low altitudinal range but it sometimes goes up to 800 m asl. It has an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 2,289 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 80 km² and it does not appear to be significantly threatened at the moment. Therefore, Phyllanthus baladensis is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Phyllanthus baladensis is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the north east of Grande Terre, from Ponérihouen to Paala with some scattered observations at Koné and Koumac.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observation indicate a species that is quite common.

Habitat


Phyllanthus baladensis occurs in undergrowth forests on volcano-sedimentary substrate. It mainly grows in low altitude range but it sometimes goes up to 800 m asl.

Threats


Phyllanthus baladensis does not seem to be threatened.

Conservation


Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. Phyllanthus baladensis occurs only in one protected area: Mont Panié.
