Description
Phyllanthus buxoides is bushy shrub of 0.5-1.5 m high, endemic of New Caledonia. It is restricted to the north west to the ultramafic massifs of Grande Terre, from mine Pinpin to Tiébaghi. This species occurs in maquis on ultramafic rocky ridges at an altitude range of 5 to 1,100 m asl. Its habitat is impacted by recurrent bushfires and mining activities at Koniambo, Tiébaghi and Kaala massifs. Its Area of Occupancy (AOO) and Extent of Occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to be 140 and 2,981 km², Phyllanthus buxoides is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(i,ii,iii,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,v) with an estimated decline of all the concerned subcriteria and a number of locations above 10.
Geographical area
Phyllanthus buxoides is endemic of New Caledonia where it is restricted to the north west to the ultramafic massifs of Grande Terre, from mine Pinpin to Tiébaghi.

Conservation
Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. None of the subpopulations occur within a protected area.
