Phyllanthus kanalensis is a shrub and small tree up to 4 m high, endemic of New Caledonia widely distributed across the Grande Terre. Phyllanthus kanalensis is an ubiquitous species. It grows on forest edges, understory forests and shrubland on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates between 50 and 950 m asl. The population size is not known but this species does not seem to be threatened. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 11,529 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 120 km², Phyllanthus kanalensis is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Phyllanthus kanalensis is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across the Grande Terre.
Population
The population size is not known.
Habitat
Phyllanthus kanalensis occurs in forest edges, understory forests and shrubland on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates at an altitude range of 50 and 950 m asl.
Threats
Phyllanthus kanalensis does not appear to be threatened.
Conservation
Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. Phyllanthus kanalensis does occur in two protected areas: la Dumbéa, Haute Dumbéa.
