Phyllanthus koghiensis is a shrub or small tree growing up to 8 m high, endemic of New Caledonia and restricted to Mont Koghis region. This species occurs in forest undergrowth on ultramafic substrates at an altitude range of 75 and 1,000 m asl. Population size is unknown and field observations indicate a species locally abundant in deep forests. Its Area of Occupancy (AOO) and Extent of Occurrence (EOO) are estimated at 16 and 16 km². This species may be impacted in forest edges by logging activities and recreational activities (acrobranching and rumpling results). As this threat could quickly drive the species to Endangered in the future, Phyllanthus koghiensis is listed as Near Threatened (NT) close to Vulnerable under criterion D2.

Phyllanthus koghiensis is endemic to New Caledonia and it is restricted to Mont Koghis region.
