Near Threatened (NT) , assessed in 25/06/2020

Phyllanthus loranthoides is an endemic sub-shrub of 25-50 cm high or shrub of 1.5-2 m high, endemic of New Caledonia. It is distributed in the northern half part of the Grande Terre, from Farino cascade to Poum pininsula, as well as in Belep islands (Art island). This species could have a wider range of distribution due to its scattered distribution. Phyllanthus loranthoides is an ubiquitous species. It grows in maquis, dry forest and dense humid forests on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates between 20 and 550 m asl. The main threats identified are bushfires, mining activities at Tiébaghi and Rusa deer, Rusa timorensis. The Extent of Occurrence (EOO) ranges between to 5,000 km² and 10,000 km² and the Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 100 km² and 1,000 km². Phyllanthus loranthoides is therefore assessed as Near Threatened (NT) near Vulnerable, close to VU B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v) with a decline of habitat quality and a number of locations estimated to be over 10.
