Phyllanthus montrouzieri is a shrub or small tree of 0.5-3 m, endemic of New Caledonia. It is distributed in the north west of Grande Terre, from Boulinda to Poum, as well as Yandé island and Belep islands (Art island). This species occurs in shrubland and sometimes in undergrowth forets on ultramafic substrates up to 800 m asl. This species is common. It does not seem threatened and it seems to be a fire-resistant species. Therefore with an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 3,570 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 164 km², Phyllanthus montrouzieri is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Phyllanthus montrouzieri is endemic of New Caledonia where it is distributed in the north west of Grande Terre, from Boulinda to Poum, as well as Yandé island and Belep islands (Art island).
Population
Population size is not known but based on field observations it is a common species.
Habitat
Phyllanthus montrouzieri occurs in shrubland and undergrowth forests on ultramafic substrates up to 800 m asl.
Threats
The species does not seem threatened an it seems to be a fire-resistant species.
Conservation
Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. Phyllanthus montrouzieri does not occr in any protected area.
