Description
Phyllanthus pronyensis is a sub-shrub of 30-50 cm high, endemic of New Caledonia and distributed in the Grand Massif Sud, from Prony to Rivière bleue. This species is quite common and it may have a wider range of distribution. It occurs in shrubland and undergrowth dense humid forests on ultramafic substrate from 200 to 330 m asl. This species does not seem threatened. With an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) ranges between 500 km² and 1,000 km² and an Area of ocupancy (AOO) between 200 km² and 500 km², P. pronyensis is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Phyllanthus pronyensis is endemic of New Caledonia where it is distributed in the Grand Massif Sud, from Prony to Rivière bleue. This species is quite common and it may have a wider range of distribution.
Population
Population size is not known. Field observations indicate a species that is abundant in the far south of Grande Terre.
Habitat
Phyllanthus pronyensis occurs in shrubland and undergrowth dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate from 200 to 330 m asl.
Threats
This species is common and it does not seem threatened although some populations may be threatened by bushfires at Bois du Sud.
Conservation
Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. Phyllanthus pronyensis does occur in two protected areas: Chutes de la Madeleine, Rivière bleue.
