Description
Phyllanthus pseudotrichopodus is a shrub of 1.3 m high, endemic of New Caledonia and distributed in the north east of Grande Terre, from mont Arago to Ponandou valley. It occurs in undergrowth humid forests on volcano-sedimentary substrates at an altitude range of between 200 and 700 m asl. Based on field observations, this species is locally abundant in dense humid forests. Its distribution can be larger than the actual distribution. This species does not seem significantly threatened although some subpopulations may be impacted by invasive species (Rusa Deer, Rusa timorensis). The Extent of Occurrence (EOO) ranges between to 400 km² and 10,000 km² and the Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 30 km² and 1,000 km². Phyllanthus pseudotrichopodus is therefore assessed as Near Threatened (NT) near Vulnerable, close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii).
Geographical area
Phyllanthus pseudotrichopodus is endemic of New Caledonia where it is distributed in the north east of Grande Terre, from mont Arago to Ponandou valley. Its distribution can be larger than the actual distribution.

Conservation
Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. Phyllanthus pseudotrichopodus does not occur in any protected area. It is recommended to realise prospections in the the north eastern forests of Grande Terre.
