Description
Phyllanthus yaouhensis is a sub-shrub or shrub of 0.25-1 m high, endemic of New Caledonia and distributed in the Grand Massif du Sud (south of Grande Terre), from Port Boisé/Cap NDoua to Rivière Bleue and Mont Koghis. This species occurs in undergrowth forests on ultramafic substrates between 10 and 1,000 m asl. Despite having an Area of Occupancy (AOO) and an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 104 and 605 km² respectively, P. yaouhensis is considered to be a common species and it does not seem threatened. Therefore, it is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Phyllanthus yaouhensis is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the Grand Massif Sud (south of Grande Terre), from Port Boisé/Cap NDoua to Rivière Bleue and Mont Koghis.
Population
Population size is not known but field observations indicate a species common in undergrowth forests
Habitat
Phyllanthus yaouhensis occurs in undergrowth forests on ultramafic substrates between 10 and 1,000 m asl.
Threats
This is common and it does not seem to be threatened although some populations in low altitudinal areas can be impacted by bushfires.
Conservation
Phyllanthus genus is protected by legislation in Province Nord. Phyllanthus yaouhensis does occur in 3 protected areas: Vallée de la Thy, Montagne des sources, Rivière bleue.
