Red List Status -
Vulnerable (VU) , assessed in 20/07/2022Arthropodium sp.nov. #16 is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia. This species is only known from a single population at Dent de la Poya Massif. It is found in shrubland at aproximatively 970 m asl. This species is present on an ultramafic massif of a closed mining site and thus is not actually impacted by mining activities. However, future mining development is still a threat and a possible exploitation of Dent de la Poya site might cause this species to quickly become Critically Endangered. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are equal to 4 km², and so this species is considered as Vulnerable (VU) under criterion D2.
