Endiandra sp.nov. Munzinger 7789 is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia. It is known from three subpopulations restricted to the north west massifs of the Grande Terre. This species is found in scrubland and in riverine forests on serpentine substrate at an altitudinal range of 80-585 m asl. The main identified threats are linked to habitat damage by uncontrolled bushfires and indirectly mining activities at Tiebaghi and Poya massifs. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are respectively estimated to be of 277 and 12 km² while the number of locations are estimated to be three. This new species is therefore assessed as Endangered (EN) with criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,v), with an estimated continuing decline of all concerned sub-criteria.

Geographical area

This species is endemic to New Caledonia where it is known from three subpopulations restricted to the north west massifs of the Grande Terre : Tiebaghi, Koniambo and Pinpin.

Population

The population size is not known.

Conservation

Elaeodendron sp.nov. MacKee 19610 is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area. It is recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services) on the presence of the species in the concerned areas. It is recommended to search the species in serpentine forests.
