Notelaea crassifolia is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, restricted to the summits of two massifs in the south of Grande Terre : Mont Kouakoué and Mont Humboldt. It occurs in shrubland and forest on ultramafic soil between 1,000 and 1,600 m asl. Alyxia humboldtensis is a small procumbent liana endemic to New Caledonia where it is is known from only one population, located near the Mont Humboldt summit. It grows in the cyperaceous vegetation between peridotite rocks at 1,500 m asl. It is not threatened at the moment, but as it occurs in one locality at high altitudes, it could be impacted by climate change in the future, although the exact timescale and extent of impact are uncertain. Therefore, Notelaea crassifolia is precautionarily listed as Near Threatened (NT), approaching the threshold for Vulnerable under criterion D2.
