Notelaea cymosa is an endemic tree from New Caledonia where it has a scattered distribution in the center and the north west part of Grande Terre. It occurs in shrubland and humid forest on ultramafic substrate from 300 to 1,100 m asl. The main threats impacting this species are bushfires and mining activities causing habitat fragmentation. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are estimated to be 64 and 2,879 km²,respectifully, while the number of locations is estimated to be six. Notelaea cymosa is considered Vulnerable (VU) using criteria B1ab (i,ii,iii,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,v) with an estimated decline of all sub-criteria.

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is not so common.

Habitat


This species occurs in shrubland and humid forest on ultramafic substrate from 300 to 1,100 m asl.

Threats


The main threats impacting this species are bushfires and mining activities causing habitat fragmentation.

Conservation


Notelaea cymosa is unprotected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected areas. This species would benefit from ex situ and in situ emergency conservation actions. It is recommended to inform the local authority responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort about the presence of the species in the concerned areas.
