Near Threatened (NT) , assessed in 27/09/2022Coronanthera maxima Muzinger, sp. nov., {MacKee 15155} is a newly identified endemic species from New Caledonia, only known from Tchamba at the north east of Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate between 410 and 600 m asl. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are both estimated to be 8 km². This species is locally abundant and it does not seem to be directly threatened. However its habitat quality can be potentially impacted by invasive species (Rusa deer). Coronanthera maxima Muzinger, sp. nov., {MacKee 15155} is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to Vulnerable (VU) B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii).
Geographical area
This new species is endemic to New Caledonia where it is only known from Tchamba at the north east of Grande Terre.
Population
The population size is not known.
Habitat
This species occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate between 410 and 600 m asl.

Conservation
This new species is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected areas.
