Endangered (EN) , assessed in 27/09/2022Parsonsia sp.nov. MacKee 16618 is an endemic liana from New Caledonia, restricted to the northwest massif of the Grande Terre : Tiébaghi massif and Ouazangou. It occurs in scrubland on serpentine substrate up to 200 m asl. The main identified threat is linked indirectly to mining activities (road construction, soil erosion) and bushfires. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are estimated to 16 and 119 km²,respectively, while the number of locations is estimated to be three. Parsonsia sp.nov. MacKee 16618 is therefore assessed as Endangered (EN) with criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii,v)+2ab (i,ii,iii,v) with a continuing decline of all concerned sub-criteria

Parsonsia sp.nov. MacKee 16618 is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the northwest massif of Grande Terre : Tiébaghi massif and Ouazangou.

The population size is not known.

The main identified threat is linked indirectly to the mining activities (road construction, soil erosion) and bushfires.
Conservation
Parsonsia sp.nov. MacKee 16618 is not protected by legislation and it does not occur in any protected areas. This species would benefit from ex situ and in situ emergency conservation actions. It is proposed to monitor known subpopulations, to preserve a viable population on delimited area on the mining site. It would be moreover advised to realize multiplication tests in order to assist future planting operations. It is recommended to inform the DSCGR (government department overseeing firefighting actions) on the presence of the species in the concerned areas.
