Alyxia nummularia is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the northwestern part of Grande Terre, from Yaté to Koniambo. It is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range of 50-1,100 m asl. The main identified threats come from mining activities and bushfires. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 132 and 6,834 km², Alyxia nummularia is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab (ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v) with an estimated decline of all the concerned subcriteria and a number of locations over to be 10.

The population size is not known.

Conservation
Alyxia nummularia is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in several protected areas: Montagne des sources, Côte Oubliée, Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa, Parc zoologique et forestier Michel Corbasson, Pic du Pin.
