Alyxia pseudoserpentina is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia distributed in the western part of Grande Terre. It occurs in dry forest on volcano-sedimentary and calcareous substrates up to 250 m asl. This species is very common. Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires, animal invasives (Rusa deer) but globally this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 8,131 and 160 km², respectively. Therefore, Alyxia pseudoserpentina is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Alyxia pseudoserpentina is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the western part of Grande Terre.
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is common.
Habitat
This species occurs in dry forest on volcano-sedimentary and calcareous substrates up to 250 m asl.
Threats
Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires, animal invasives (Rusa deer) but globally this species does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Alyxia pseudoserpentina is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in three protected areas: Parc zoologique et forestier Michel Corbasson, Ile Leprédour, Ouen Toro.
