Sleumerodendron austrocaledonicum is an endemic tree (growing up to 20 m high) from New Caledonia largely distributed across the Grande Terre as well as in Belep islands. This species is common and occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates, between 200 and 1,040 m asl. S. austrocaledonicum has an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 7,219 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 188 km², but it does not appear to be threatened.Therefore, S. austrocaledonicum is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Sleumerodendron austrocaledonicum is endemic to New Caledonia where it is largely distributed across the Grande Terre as well as in Belep islands.
Population
Population size is unknown. Based on field observations it is a common species.
Habitat
Sleumerodendron austrocaledonicum occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates, between 200 and 1,040 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem to be threatened although some subpopulations may be threatened by bushfires.
Conservation
Sleumerodendron austrocaledonicum is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in 5 protected areas : Mont Panié, Vallée de la Thy, Aoupinié, Rivière bleue, Parc des Grandes Fougères.
