Grammitis deplanchei is an endemic epiphytic fern from New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre. It grows in dense humid forest on ultramafic or volcano-sedimentary substrate above 300 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 6,786 and 168 km², respectively, and no specific threats have been identified. Therefore, G. deplanchei is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


G. deplanchei is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre, from Mts. Koghis to Mt. Mandjélia.

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observation indicate that this species is common.

Habitat


This epiphytic fern grows in high elevation dense humid forest on ultramafic or volcano-sedimentary substrate, commonly above 750 m asl, but it also has been observed lower, around 300 m asl.

Threats


No specific threats have been identified.

Conservation


G. deplanchei is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in numerous protected areas: Vallée de la Thy, Forêt de Saille, Haute Dumbéa, Massif du Kouakoué, Montagne des sources, Mont Do, Mont Humboldt, Mont Mou, Mont Panié and Pic Ningua natural reserves, as well as Rivière Bleue and Dumbéa provincial parks. Prospection could be conducted on Mé Adéo and Table Unio, where it has not been observed in over a century.
