Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 08/11/2022Hugonia jenkinsii is a native species of New Caledonia widely distributed across the Grande Terre, from Mont-Dore (the southern limit) to Koumac-Ouégoa (the upper limit). This species occurs in dense humid forest up to 600 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is equal to 11,827 km² and its area of occupancy (AOO) equal to 224 km², respectively. It is quite common and does not seem threatened. Therefore, Hugonia jenkinsii is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Hugonia jenkinsii is native to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across the Grande Terre, from Mont-Dore (the southern limit) to Koumac- Ouégoa (the upper limit).
Population
The population size is not known. Field observations indicate that the species is quite common.
Habitat
This species occurs in dense humid forest up to 600 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem to be threatened to be threatened.
Conservation
Hugonia jenkinsii is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas : Haute Yaté, Mont Mou, Montagne des sources, Vallée de la Thy, Rivière bleue, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Aoupinié.
