Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 02/05/2019Kibaropsis caledonica is an endemic tree of New Caledonia (growing up to 15 m high), distributed in the northern half of Grande Terre. This species occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrates up to 1,200 m asl. This species is common and does not seem significantly threatened. Therefore, despite having an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 3,715 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 240 km², K. caledonica is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Kibaropsis caledonica is an endemic species distributed in the northern half of Grande Terre, from Koujoua to Col d'Amoss.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations indicate a quite common species.
Habitat
Kibaropsis caledonica occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 1,200 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. However, some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires and invasive species (feral pigs, Sus scrofa and Rusa deer, Rusa timorensis).
Conservation
Kibaropsis caledonica is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in 2 protected areas: Mont Panié, Aoupinié.
