Description

Cap: conical, gradually becoming applanate with an umbo and splitting radially; 30 - 65 mm diameter; white to ivory; dry, silky, fibrillose, often with a ragged margin.

Stipe: cylindrical, tapering at base; 20 - 60 × 3 - 8 mm; white; smooth, silky, hollow.

Gills: deeply adnexed to almost free; white; moderately thick.

Flesh: thin, white.

Spore print: white.

Spores: ellipsoid; 6 - 9 × 4 - 5 µm; Q = 1.5.

Notes: the silky white cap with a radially split margin, white stipe and white spore print help to identify this fungus in the field, but microscopic characters may be needed for confirmation.
