Pileus: convex with a flat top; 15 - 25 mm diameter; faintly squamulose; orange on top becoming yellow towards the margin; orange striations on sides; margin lobed.

Stipe: cylindrical, fasciculate; 40- 50 × 3–4mm; glabrous; yellow at apex, orange below.

Gills: arcuate decurrent; distant; white with an orange tint.

Flesh: whitish with an orange tint.

Notes: this Hygrocybe did not fit any of the species in Horak or Young. This could possibly be H. miniceps, but the microscopic details of this collection were not checked so it is not possible to confirm that.
