Description
Pileus: shallow convex becoming centrally depressed with an umbo; 30 - 45 mm diameter; reticulate, with raised radial striae and cross striae, glabrous umbo; pale yellow brown, straw coloured ground with mid-brown striae overlay; margin acute.
Stipe: cylindrical; 50- 60 × 3–4 mm; glabrous to minutely hispid; white at apex becoming very pale brown towards the base.
Gills: adnexed to free; moderately spaced, white; lamellulae in one series.
Flesh: white.
Spore print: white.
Spores: not recorded.
Notes: this Hymenopellis does not readily fit any of the species described by Petersen and Hughes in their world monograph on the genus. They do not record any species for New Caledonia. The cap is similar to that of Hymenopellis sp ‘reticulatus’ but that species has distinctive dark blue black colouring and is more robust. Sequencing confirms this is a Hymenopellis but it could not be matched to any of those reviewed by Patersen & Hughes.
