Description
Pileus: centrally depressed with a small umbo in the centre; 30 - 40 mm diameter; rugulose; dark brown.
Stipe: tapering towards base; 15 - 30 × 8-10 mm; velutinate; dark brown at apex with white at base.
Gills: subdecurrent; cream; lamellulae in one series.
Milk: white; mild tasting; becoming brown on gills.
Spore print: white.
Notes: this species is in the subgenus Gerardii and shares the browning milk with the Japanese species Lactarius ochrogalactus but it is likely to be a new species and more closely related to the as yet undescribed Australian species from Fraser Island with browning milk.
