Description
Pileus: convex becoming centrally depressed; 15 – 30 mm diameter; glabrous when young then developing scales; centre of cap red brown becoming white and less scaly outwards; innately striate outer half; margin slightly sulcate.
Stipe: cylindrical; 25 – 50 × 2 – 4 mm; glabrous, pruinose shiny; silvery white.
Gills: free; white; lamellulae in one series.
Flesh: white.
Spore print: white.
Spores: not observed.
Notes: this fungus is mainly distinguished by its free white gills, red brown scaly and striate white cap and shiny pruinose white stipe. It is difficult to separate from many other species of small Lepiotas found in New Caledonian forests.
