Description
Pileus: convex to planoconvex;140 –240 mm diameter; glabrous, sometimes cracking; cream to yellowish brown or greyish brown; margin involute.
Stipe: cylindrical to clavate; 150 –250× 14 –50 mm; glabrous to fibrillose; cream, fibres becoming brown at maturity.
Gills: adnexed to sinuate; crowded; pale cream, lamellulae in 2 series.
Flesh: thick, heavy; cream.
Spore print: pale cream.
Spores: ellipsoid; 5 – 6.5 × 3.7 – 4.5, smooth.
Notes: this is a very large caespitose (stipes joined at base) fungus which is creamy white at first but turns ochraceous brown in the sun and frequently cracks. It is pantropical and it reported to be edible after cooking despite the warning in the photograph.
