Cap: convex; 4–35 mm diameter; velutinate; dark chestnut; radially striate; margin down rolled.

Stipe: cylindrical; 40 – 80 × 1 - 3 mm; pruinose; dark chestnut with apale yellowish cream apex.

Gills: free to adnexed; crowded; cinnamon to snuff brown; lamellulae in 2 series; edge serrate.

Flesh: thin, brown.

Spore print: white.

Spores: ellipsoid; 11.5 - 15 × 3 - 5m; thin walled, inamyloid.

Notes: this Marasmius is characterized by its very dark chestnut velutinous cap and a red brown pruinose stipe.
