Description
Cap: infundibuliform;1-80 mm diameter; densely hispid (hairy); deep purple, lilac through to light brown to white, hairs brown with white tips; margin often inrolled.
Stipe:cylindrical, often tapering toward base;20 - 40 × 3 - 10 mm; hispid; lilac through to light brown to white, hairs with white tips.
Gills: deeply decurrent; white to pale brown.
Spore print: white.
Spores:ellipsoid; 4.5 – 6.5 × 2 – 3.5 µm; inamyloid.
Notes: this Panus is characterized by its very hairy cap and stipe which can be a variety of colours, it has decurrent gills and grows on a wood substrate. It appears that this species prefers rainforest locations whereas P. fasciatusis found in dry forests with Myrtaceous trees.
