Notes: This fungus is recognized in the field by its large horse hoof shaped fruiting bodies with small ochraceous brown pores. A dozen species of Phellinus have been recorded in New Caledonia and this collection does not seem to fit any of them. It is possibly P. mangrovicus which has been recorded growing on Rhizophora in Papua New Guinea.
