Description
Cap: convex to hemispherical; 30 - 60 mm diameter; glabrous, dry, shiny; dark cigar brown; margin retracted from pores.
Stipe: strongly clavate, very narrow at apex; 60 – 100 × 10 – 30 mm; pubescent, scurfy, matt; mid brown, much paler than cap.
Pores: adnexed; small; very dark brown; purplish sepia at maturity.
Flesh: spongy, brownish white.
Spore print: sepia, very dark brown with purplish tinge.

Notes: this small Bolete is characterised by its very dark spores with a purplish tinge. It has a dark brown cap and pores and a pronounced clavate stipe.
