Description

Fruiting body: irregularly globose to ovoid, like potatoes; 30 – 50 mm diameter; tough, dry, becoming areolate; bay brown to umber, sometimes with yellow, white or paler background in areolate specimens; dehiscing irregularly by apical ruptures.

Stipe: absent; fruiting body anchored to the substrate by several rhizomorphs.

Gleba(spore mass): purplish-brown becoming umber;sometimes with a marbled appearance, marbling yellowish or white.

Spores: globose and reticulate.

Notes: this fungus is recognisedby its brownish tuber like fruiting bodies and confirmed by its globose reticulate spores. This species has a worldwide distribution and may have been introduced to New Caledonia.
