Description

Fruiting body: fan shaped shaped with outer edge above or below the point of attachment; a narrow attachment to the substrate; projecting up to 120 mm from substrate with a diameter of up to 240 mm; thin, often only 1 - 2 mm thick.

Upper surface is composed of concentric alternating bands of vinaceous, vinaceous grey and blue grey; fades to pale dull browns on drying; may have zones of hairs but often seems to be naked; margin pinkish grey and lighter than inner zones, usually wavy.

Lower surface: smooth with neither pores nor gills nor teeth, white when fresh.

Flesh: thin and of a tough but elastic consistency, like leather. Not changing colour on bruising.

Notes: this species is characterised by thin vinaceous fan shaped fruiting body and a smooth white lower surface. It grows in troops on wood.
