Fruiting body: clavariod, branched; 30 – 45 mm tall; branches spathulate, palmate with sharply pointed ends; dark purplish brown throughout.

Stipe: compressed cylindrical, sometimes absent; 5 - 15 × 3 - 5 mm; dark purplish brown.

Flesh: tough.

Spore print: purple brown.

Notes: the clavariod, much branched fruiting bodies with spathulate palmate branches and purplish brown colours suggest this is a Thelephora. This collection has not been examined microscopically, it appears to be close to Corner's description of T. fucoides.
