Description
Fruiting body: dendroid, tree shaped; 10 –30 mm tall, 5 – 20 mm wide; hirsute and roughened, matt; branching, upper branches fertile and powdery white, remainder black.
Stipe: irregularly cylindrical, attenuated at base; hirsute; black; insititious.
Flesh: tough, whitish.
Spore print: black.

Notes: this Xylaria is branched, hairy and grows on wood.It does not readily fit any of the descriptions available for New Caledonian species.
