Description
Fruiting body: solitary orsparsely branched; 20 –40 mm tall, 1 – 2 mm wide; glabrous, almost lacquered, shiny; branching, tips fertile and powdery white, remainder dark brown to sepia with patches of cream bloom.
Stipe: irregularly cylindrical; lacquered, shiny; dark reddish brown; insititious.
Flesh: tough.
Spore print: black.

Notes: this Xylaria is branched with a red brown lacquered appearance and the fertile white part confined to the tips. It grows on litter, leaves and twigs.It does not readily fit any of the descriptions available for New Caledonian species.
