Description
Pileus: convex becoming applanate; up to 120 mm diameter; viscid to glutinous; red brown to liver brown; margin inrolled at first.
Stipe: cylindrical, tapering slightly; 80 - 200 × 12 – 20 mm; red brown; with a ring like veil zone, dry above the ring, viscid below.
Gills: adnexed; crowded; pale silver; with white fimbriate edges.
Flesh: white but wine red in the base of the stipe.
Spore print: rusty brown.
Spores: amygdaliform; 12 – 13.5 × 7 – 7.5 µm; minutely warty.
Notes: this robust red brown Cortinarius has a viscid cap and stipe and white flesh with wine red in the base of the stipe, it is in subgenus Myxacium.
