Description

Pileus: conical becoming umbonate; 10 - 20 mm diameter; dry; glabrous or finely fibrillose; grey brown, darker brown umbo; margin strongly striate.

Stipe: cylindrical; 20 - 45 × 1 - 2 mm; dry; brown; glabrous at apex, strongly white fibrillose, on lower half.

Gills: free; crowded; white to beige;  turning pink with age

Flesh: brownish.

Smell: fruity and aromatic.

Spore print: pink.

Spores: angular, 5 - 6 sided; 9 - 11 × 6 - 7.5 µm; smooth.  

Notes: this fungus is recognized by its combination of a grey brown striate cap with a darker brown umbo and stipe and its strong fruity aromatic smell.  It is very like a slender E. canobrunnescens with a darker brown umbo and the fruity aromatic smell.
