Description
Pileus: convex; 12 - 22 mm diameter;velutinous to minutely squamulose; brilliant scarlet; margin sometimes slightly inrolled.
Stipe:cylindrical; 17- 30 × 2–4mm; glabrous; dry;brilliant scarlet red tones and often white at base.
Gills: adnate;distant; pale pinkish orpale yellow.
Flesh: not recorded.
Spore print: white.
Spores: ellipsoid; 8 - 10 × 5 –6.5µm.
Notes: this Hygrocybe is difficult to identify in the field, they are quite variable in their characters. They are generally small and brilliant red and have pale coloured adnate gills.
