Description

Pileus: conical; 13 - 30 mm diameter; dry; fibrillose; red, orange or yellow or a mixture of these colours overlain with black fibrils.

Stipe: cylindrical, hollow; 60- 85 × 3–5mm; fibrillose;dry; yellow to pale orange, overlain with black fibrils.

Gills: adnate to free; rather distant; yellow to orange.

Flesh: yellow, exudes clear liquid, blackening with age.

Spore print: white.

Spores: subglobose; 7.5 - 10 × 6 –8.5 µm.

Notes: this tall Hygrocybe is defined by its conical cap and black fibrils. The whole fungus blackens with age.
