Fruit body: subglobose with a stem; 20 - 90 mm tall, 25 - 60 mm diameter; white; outer surface with short pyramidal warts; rubbing off to leave a polygonal pattern in older specimens. Inner wall opens by a pore to release the spores.
Stipe: cylindrical, expanding at apex in to the main fruiting body; white; with warts but fewer than on the upper surface.
Flesh: thin, white.
Gleba (Spore mass): olive-brown at maturity; flesh in stem white and spongy.

Notes: this puffball is recognised by its white subglobose fruit body with a distinct stem and small pyramidal white warts. It is common in forests and has a global distribution.
