Description
Cap: plano-convex; 60 - 120 mm diameter; dry, minutely tomentose to smooth; pale brown, hazel; margin wavy, undulate, retracting from gills in places.
Stipe: distinctly tapering with lower portion buried in soil; 40 – 80 × 25 – 50 mm; fibrillose streaky; ochre to yellow at apex gradually becoming darker date brown towards base.
Gills: decurrent; golden yellow; bruising green then slowly browning; not anastomizing or becoming pore like.
Flesh: thick and pale yellow to white in cap, cyanescing (blue green) strongly on exposure to air, date brown in stipe.
Spore print: honey brown.
Spores: subfusiform; 12.6 – 15.2 × 5.4 – 5.8 µm
Notes: this Phylloporus has a pale brown cap, golden yellow gills and a brown stipe. This collection is of rather small specimens that do not show the characteristic green staining of the gills and flesh so it may be different.
