Description

Cap: convex with a centrally depression, irregular; 40 - 90 mms diameter; indistinctly radially ridged, velutinate; zoned in concentric bands of pale brown, orange brown, grey brown.

Stipe: central, cylindrical, irregular; 60 - 100 × 4 - 8 mms; greyish brown, velutinate; attached to roots or wood.

Pores: adnate; white to cream; bruising red; turned brown by the spores.

Flesh: thick and woody, pale brown staining vinaceous on bruising then slowly black.

Spore print: brown.

Notes:This fungus is difficult to recognize. Similar to A. sp 2 but not laccate. Further data needed to determine if this is distinct.
