Description

Cap: convex with a shallow central depression; 40 - 70 mms diameter; radially ridged, laccate, shiny; concentric bands concolourous dark brown to sepia.

Stipe: central, cylindrical, irregular; 70 - 120 × 4 - 6 mms; greyish brown, velutinate; attached to roots or wood.

Pores: adnate; white to cream, bruising red; becoming brown.

Flesh: thick and woody;pale brown staining vinaceous then slowly black.

Spore print: brown.

Notes: This fungus is difficult to recognize. Similar to A leptopus  but not identical. Further data needed to determine if this is distinct.
