Description
Pileus: funnel shape; 8 – 15 mm diameter;hirsute, with upright pointed hairs covering the whole of the pileal surface; dark brown; margin lobed and hirsute.
Stipe: cylindrical; 10 – 25 × 1.5 – 2.5 mm; hirsute with pointed hairs shorter than those on the cap; dark brown.
Hymenium: decurrent; irregular shallow folds; greyish lilac.
Flesh: thin, soft, elastic..
Spores: ellipsoid; 7 – 9 × 5 – 7.5 µm.
Notes: Cantharellus hysterix is immediately recognised by the combination of the dark brown hairy funnel shaped cap and the shallow folded lilac grey hymenium.This is the first record of this fungus since Corner described it in 1966, it appears to be rare.
